Outfielder William Venable, first basemen/designated hitters Daryl Jones and Kyle Blanks, along with second baseman/third baseman Seth Johnston and left-hander Brandon Higelin were named to the Eastern Division team.
Managers from all teams in the Midwest League vote on the All-Star teams selected to participate each year. With an unequal number of teams in each division, members of the Kane County Cougars (Oakland A’s affiliate) will participate with the Eastern Division team.
Jones, Blanks and Johnston were named to the starting line-up for the Eastern Division team with Jones at first base and Blanks as the designated hitter. Johnston, who recently switched from second base to third base, will start at second.
Both Venable and Blanks are among the top-10 in batting. Venable leads the Wizards and is sixth with a .318 average, while Blanks is tenth with a .297 average.
Jones, who is hitting .263, leads Fort Wayne with 10 home runs and 35 runs batted in.
Johnston is hitting .270 with 15 doubles and 32 RBI, second on the Wizards.
Higelin, the only left-handed reliever on the Fort Wayne staff, is 1-1 with a 1.23 earned run average in 22 appearances. In 29 1/3 innings, he has allowed 18 hits, nine walks and struck out 34.
The most players selected from the Fort Wayne Wizards were during the 2004 and 2005 season when seven players were picked for the Midwest League All-Star Game.
