, the first of two Padres picks in the second round of last year's draft, had four homers through his first 47 games of the year, but doubled that total last week. The switch-hitter was 9-for-25 to move his season average to .283.
Mike Ekstrom, who led the organization in wins last year for Fort Wayne, gave up just one run on 10 hits in 13.1 innings of work last week. The righty walked two and struck out 10. On the year, he now owns the fifth-best ERA in the Cal League at 2.67. He has allowed just two homers in 67.1 innings of work all year, giving up just 17 walks.
Leo Rosales (May 15-21) and Colt Morton (April 6-16) also won weekly awards for the Storm earlier this season. No other club in the Padres system has had as many weekly honorees this year.
The Lake Elsinore Storm may only have posted a 3-4 record last week, but that didn't keep Mike Ekstrom, who won two games, and Chase Headley, who clubbed for homers, from winning the Cal league pitcher and hitter of the week awards respectively.
