Fernando Valenzuela Jr., the son of a former major leaguer, was released by the San Diego Padres on Tuesday. In 28 games, Valenzuela hit .169 with 12 hits in 71 at bats. He hit .286 over his first three seasons in the system with 28 homers and 210 RBI's.
Michael Johnson was hurt in the Baybears opening game of the season. He has a career .276 average over 217 games with 41 homers and 167 RBI's.
Infielder Chris O'Riordan hit .348 over his first two seasons in the minors before succumbing to the injury bug. He played in three games this year, going 1-for-6.
Adam Bourassa played in 30 games for Mobile this year, posting a .203 average. He was in a 1-for-24 slump as he heads the disabled list.
