Beavers win sixth straight 3-2

Winning is contagious. Just ask Seth Etherton. The veteran right-handed pitcher joined in the fun last night at PGE Park gaining his first win of the season after four straight no-decisions by pitching seven innings of three hit ball.

He set the tone early retiring the first nine men up before giving up a one out walk to SS Robert Andino to lead off the fourth. He struck out six, walked two and gave up two runs, both earned, (2 home runs to Scott Seabol) which helped the Beavers to their sixth straight win over the Albuquerque Isotopes 3-2.

"My palm ball and cutter were working well tonight," said Etherton. "And Jason called a great game."

The Beaver bullpen continued to impress by shutting out the Isotopes in the final two innings. Jason Anderson seems to have found his grove pitching one of inning giving up two hits, but no runs, after a rocky beginning with the Beavers. He hasn't given up a run in his last eight appearances. Brian Sikorski earned his fifth save of the season by striking out the side in the ninth. Sikorski now has 40 strikeouts in 24 1/3 innings of work.

" We are doing the little things right, " said Manager Craig Colbert. "No question about our bullpen. It's a nice thing to have -- two potential closers in Sikorski and Adkins. I don't like burning relievers three days in a row."

With the trade of Freddie Guzman to Texas, Center fielder David Delucchi was brought up from AA Mobile of the Southern league and stepped right in and blasted a one out double to right-center field scoring two, which turned out to be the game winning hit.

"I was looking for a fastball with a 3-1 count and got it and was able to put some good wood on it and was able to drive it," said Delucchi. Recommended Stories
