The Colorado Sky Sox totaled 15 hits in the win at PGE Park.
Justin Leone continued his season opening power surge, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Sky Sox bats. Leone who went two for three with a single, a walk and his fifth homer. His three run shot in the third inning was his fifth homer in the first seven games and brought the Beavers within one run. But it wasn't enough.
"I have been able to hit those mistake pitches," said Leone.
Leone has started the season on a tear with 12 hits in his first 25 at bats, 5 homers with 11 rbi's in the first seven games to start the season. This is by far his best season start.
Starter Mike Thompson had a rough first inning giving up five runs on five hits. He settled down nicely after the first inning giving up no runs and two hits in the final four innings of his start. Because of his pitch count, he was lifted after five innings. Portland pitching coach Gary Lance limits his pitchers to 85 pitches for their first three starts of the season.
" I was getting the ball up and everything I threw in that first inning they seemed to know what was coming and hit it hard," said Thompson. "After the first inning I relaxed threw my pitches."
