Padres Release Andy Ashby

The San Diego Padres today released right-handed pitcher Andy Ashby.

Andy Ashby, 38, went 0-1 with an 8.18 ERA (10 ER/11.0 IP) in seven games this spring. He appeared in two games for the Padres in 2004, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings in September after spending the season rehabbing following successful "Tommy John" surgery on October 20, 2003.

Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1986, Ashby has compiled a career record of 98-110 with a 4.12 ERA (829 ER/1810.2 IP) in 309 games over parts of 13 Major League seasons with the Phillies (1991-92, 2000), Colorado Rockies (1993), Padres (1993-99, 2004), Atlanta Braves (2000) and Dodgers (2001-2003).
