Anderson,26, was 1-0 with a 7.94 ERA in three games with the Yankees last season and went 4-1 with a 2.66 ERA and 10 saves in 55 games with Triple-A Columbus of the International League.
Originally selected in the 10th round of the 2000 First-Year Player Draft by the Yankees, Anderson has a 2-0 win-loss record with a 6.39 ERA (27 ER/38.0 IP) over 32 Major League games with the Yankees (2003, 2005), New York Mets (2003) and Cleveland Indians (2004). In addition, the 6-0, 190-pound right-hander has a career mark of 36-27 with a 3.25 ERA (177 ER/490.0 IP) over parts of six Minor League seasons.
To clear a roster spot, San Diego designated right-hander Kenny Baugh for assignment. The Padres have 10 days to trade him, place him on waivers or send him outright to the minors. Baugh was 12-8 with a 3.38 ERA last season for Triple-A Toledo of the International League and was acquired in a trade with Detroit for minor league prospect Ricky Steik.
The 26-year-old Baugh, who compiled a 7-3 record and 3.25 ERA (25 ER/69.1 IP) over his final 12 starts from July 3 to Sept. 4, tied for the league lead with 28 games started and ranked fifth with 165.1 innings pitched and 60 walks.
