First reported by the AP, Brian Giles will return to the Padres for three years that will pay him $30 million guaranteed plus incentives.
The deal, of course, will be contingent upon a physical and a press conference has been scheduled for Thursday.
Giles, who will be 35 at the start of 2006, boasted a .423 on base percentage in 2005, leading the majord in walks with 119 and hitting .301 with 15 homers and 83 RBI's.
Giles was obtained from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Aug. 26, 2003, for left-hander Oliver Perez and outfielder Jason Bay, the 2004 NL Rookie of the Year.
The concern among fans was Giles would walk and the Padres would be left without their best offensive threat and two emerging prospects.
