Brent Carter, the San Diego Padres 16th round selection in this year’s June Amateur Draft out of the University of Alabama, joined the Wizards on August 27 after beginning his professional career with the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League.
In his first two starts last week for Fort Wayne, Carter was 2-0, picking up wins against the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays affiliate) and the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds affiliate).
Carter allowed one run and seven hits in his 12 innings of work combined between his starts against Lansing and Dayton. For the week, he posted a 0.75 earned run average, allowed one walk and struck out 13.
With Eugene this season, Carter posted a 4-2 mark with a 1.88 ERA in 13 starts. In 72 innings, he allowed 58 hits and only seven walks, while striking out 66.
Right-hander Michael Ekstrom earned Pitcher of the Week honors from May 16-22. Former Wizards catcher Colt Morton was named the Hitter of the Week from April 18-24 and second baseman Sean Kazmar was named the Hitter of the Week from August 8-14.
