Padres trade Juan Jimenez for Manny Alexander

The San Diego Padres traded pitcher Juan Jimenez to the Texas Rangers for infielder Manny Alexander.

Juan Jimenez had just made his season debut with the Eugene Emeralds and was scheduled to start on Wednesday - but the trade went through which forced Steve Delabar into the rotation.

Jimenez spent most of the year with the Arizona Rookie League Padres, going 4-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 13 starts.

Manny Alexander was playing with the Rangers Triple-A affiliate, the Oklahoma RedHawks, hitting .309 with 23 doubles, six triples, 12 homers, 67 RBIs and 64 runs scored in 108 games.

Alexander has played every position on the infield diamond in 2005 and has also played centerfield. His primary position is shortstop and he has seen a significant amount of time at third base.

He leaves Oklahoma in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak, going 11-for-29 with three homers and nine RBI's.
