Portland won 4-3
Scott Cassidy saved his ninth game of the year in nine chances on Tuesday. He did give up an unearned run on an error he committed, allowing his fourth hit over his last 11 appearances. He has held the opposition to a .148 average since joining Portland and holds a 1.59 ERA in 15 appearances. Cassidy had a 4.05 ERA in 26 games with Pawtucket before joining the Beavers.
Greg Sain went 2-for-4 with an RBI, giving him RBI’s in five of the last six games he has had at bats. Sain has 12 RBI’s over that timeframe with two homers and three doubles. The first baseman has 36 RBI’s in 49 Portland games, hitting .272 and .292 with runners in scoring position (RISP).

Every batter in the lineup had a hit, all but Skip Adams scored a run, and seven players knocked in runs.
Sure Michael Johnson homered again but look out for Craig Johnson – no relation. He has reached base in 11 of the last 12 games, going 12-for-37 with ten walks for a .468 on base percentage. Johnson is hitting .300 during the month of August after batting just .193 through the first two months with the Storm. Johnson has just three RBI’s during the month of August and is hitting .159 with RISP.
Chris Tierney gave up six runs on four hits and three walks in an inning and a third on Tuesday. After posting a 2.57 ERA in July, Tierney has given up 17 earned runs in 12.2 innings during August. Tierney has walked 58 batters this year while striking out just 47 and has issued a free pass to 22 batters in August while whiffing 11. He also uncorked two wild pitches on Tuesday to give him five for the month and nine for the season.

Eugene lost 16-3
Fabian Jimenez was tagged with a liner off his shin in the third inning with the ball ricocheting all the way into foul territory. He stayed in the game after a visit from trainer Jo Jo Tarantino. He ended up leaving the game in the third anyway when he gave up six third run innings, two earned, with seven hits and three walks given up on the night. Jimenez had given up eight runs, four earned, over his first 20.1 innings with the Ems.
Daniel Baca went an inning and a third and gave up five runs on four hits and a walk as his ERA skyrocketed to 10.80 with Eugene. Since leaving the friendly confines of the Arizona Rookie League, Baca has given up 23 earned runs over 19 innings of work. The opposition is hitting .420 off Baca during that span. While he held two inherited runners from scoring, he has allowed seven of his previous ten inherited runners to score.
AZL Padres won 3-2 on Monday
One more game to go and Josh Howard could reach base in every single game he has played in on the year for the Arizona Rookie League squad. He went 2-for-3 with two walks on Monday, giving him hits in 20 of his 22 games, drawing walks in the other two contests. He has also scored a run in 12 of his last 14 games and has added a stolen base in six straight. For the season, Howard is 33-for-91 with 21 runs scored and 12 stolen bases. He is hitting a remarkable .556 with RISP.
Richie Daigle went five innings and allowed one run on four hits and a walk in his final start of the year. His first season from the conversion from outfielder to pitcher ends with a 3.60 ERA, a WHIP of 1.48 with 27 hits and ten walks allowed in 25 innings and 12 K’s. The opposition hit .290 off him but he limited the damage by allowing just a .182 average against with RISP. He allowed two earned runs or less in each of his past four starts, five total in 18 innings of work.
Julio Sanchez picked up the win in relief, tossing two scoreless outings, striking out two. Sanchez did not walk a batter for the first time in eight relief appearances. He has, however, walked 16 in 20 innings during the month of August and 27 in 40 innings overall. He has kept the opposition to a .223 average against but that number has escalated each month since June, from .154 to .211 to .244 this month. He has not allowed a homer on the season.
