The Portland Beavers feasted on the SkySox for the third straight game as Jesse Garcia drives in seven for the Beavers fourth straight win. Josh Barfield just misses the cycle and Greg Sain doubles three times.

At the beginning of the game, the Beavers got some breaks with some sloppy play by the Sky Sox, then for the fourth straight game got solid pitching from their staff, big hits from Josh Barfield and Greg Sain, and then shortstop Jesse Garcia went to work.

Garcia was a last minute fill in for shortstop Wilson Valdez, who was pulled from the game after the second inning when word came down that Khalil Greene had a fractured toe in San Diego. Denis Savage, at the game in San Diego, reported that Greene will be reevaluated on Monday but the prognosis is he will miss three weeks with a non-dislocated fracture of his big toe, meaning Wilson is more than likely headed to the big club.

Garcia hit a soft Texas Leaguer just over the outstretched arms of SkySox shortstop Anderson Machado in the fourth inning and in the next frame he hit another soft single down the left field line for this third and fourth RBIs of the game.

In the seventh inning, he then hit a towering ball over the left field wall, to drive in Greg Sain and Nick Trzesniak for a three run home run. Garcia's seven RBI's set the record for most ever by a Beaver since the Padres have been affiliated with Portland.

"Never," said Garcia after the game when asked the last time he had ever driven in seven runs in a game, "not even when I was a little kid".

The Skysox opened the scoring early in the game, and were able to break an eighteen inning drought when first baseman Ryan Shealy hit a home run deep to right field.

Early in the game, the Beavers caught a big break when Paul McAnulty came up and hit an easy pop fly to the Skysox catcher Todd Greene right in front of the plate with two outs. But the ball glanced off of Greene's glove as Delucchi raced home to tie the game.

Overshadowed by Garcia's record setting day, were excellent performances by Josh Barfield and Greg Sain, each with two RBIs. Barfield homered for the eleventh time this season and hit his twenty-first double for his thirty-fourth multi-hit game of the season.

Sain, who has seen inconsistent playing time since being promoted to Portland, doubled to all three fields.

"I made some adjustments when facing lefties, had my father in the stands, so I put a little extra into it and had a good day, " said a smiling Sain after the game.

The SkySox hit their second home run of the day, when Eddy Garabito hit a two run shot to right field.

In blazing heat, yes even for Portland it was a hot day, Mike Thompson went eight strong innings, and allowed three runs, with Garabito and Shealy's home runs the only extra base hits of the game.

In the ninth inning, Craig Breslow closed out the game to give the Beavers their fourth straight win, the longest since early June.

Beaver Bites: Barfield turned three double plays and made a nice leaping stab on a line drive hit over his head late in the game as his defense continues to match his explosive offense. . .Third baseman Sean Burroughs was 0-5 but hit the ball hard four out of his five times at the plate to right and center fields. . .Nick Trzesniak continues to hit after escaping the Mobile summer going two for three with three runs scored and catching a strong game defensively.
