While the catchers triggered the movement, with Colt Morton
, George Kottaras
and Nick Trzesniak
all moving up one level, the transaction wire is going haywire throughout the system and promises to continue to be busy this week.
Peeter Ramos will join Kottaras in Mobile, replacing the released Jason Clements. Ramos hit .278 over 100 games with the Lake Elsinore Storm with 18 stolen bases and 69 runs scored.
The Storm roster will get a boost as three players make the jump from Low-A Fort Wayne. Outfielders Matt Thayer and Chris Kolkhorst will leave the Wizards and infielder Brett Dowdy will join them.
Thayer, a MadFriars.com correspondent, has hit .387 through 21 games with Fort Wayne, notching hits in all but three games and reaching base safely in all but two. He has 11 RBI's and 11 runs scored while walking 13 times for a .477 on base percentage. Thayer batted .267 in ten games with the Storm earlier in the year.
Kolkhorst hit .282 through 100 games with Fort Wayne, scoring 65 runs and stealing 19 bases. He has walked 65 times compared to 57 strikeouts. He has also added 30 RBI's, 14 coming in July.
Dowdy hit .272 through 72 games with Fort Wayne, scoring 47 runs and notching 41 RBI's. He has nine triples and hit .341 with runners in scoring position.
More movement is expected as the Wizards roster gets replenished. Thayer, Kolkhorst and Dowdy were not in the lineup on Monday, although Peter Ciofrone did return from the disabled list.
It is that time of year when promotions begin to change the dynamics of each team in the San Diego Padres system. The development process gives many players a chance to shine at the next level, with just over a month to go in the season.
