The San Diego Padres traded infielder Goeff Blum to the Chicago White Sox for minor league pitcher Ryan Meaux.

Geoff Blum hit five homers with 22 runs batted in and a .241 batting average this season for the Friars, notching a .321 on-base percentage and a .375 slugging percentage in 78 games with San Diego.

"Geoff is a very versatile player who is comfortable at a number of positions on the field," White Sox general manager Ken Williams said. "With his ability to hit from either side of the plate, Geoff also gives Ozzie Guillen additional options in making out his lineup and managing the game."

Ryan Meaux, a left-handed reliever, posted a 5-2 record with three saves and a 2.96 earned run average in 38 games with Double-A Birmingham.

Over his last eight games, Meaux has an ERA of 6.00 after posting a 1.63 ERA over the previous two months.

While the opposition is hitting .291 off him for the year, Meaux has limited them to a .209 average with runners in scoring position.

He was acquired from the San Francisco Giants in 2002.
