Padres sign Mike Baxter; release Lachlan Dale

Fort Wayne, IN – The SEC connection for the Wizards continued today when Mike Baxter, the fourth round selection by the San Diego Padres in this year's draft, was assigned to Fort Wayne. Baxter replaces Lachlan Dale in the line-up after Dale was given his outright release from the Padres organization.

Mike Baxter joins the Wizards after signing with the Padres over the weekend. He recently finished his second season with the Vanderbilt University Commodores. He also joins fellow SEC member Josh Alley in the Wizards line-up. Alley was selected by the Padres in the 10th-round this year out of the University of Tennessee.

Baxter led the Commodores with a .374 overall average, 47 runs, 16 doubles, three triples, nine home runs and 48 runs batted in. He also led the team with a .607 slugging percentage, 30 walks, 26 stolen bases and a .468 on-base percentage.

The first baseman becomes the last pick taken in the top ten rounds by the Padres to sign a contract. All 12 picks are now under contract.

Dale was hitting .189 with 41 runs, 18 doubles, a team-leading 12 home runs and 37 runs batted in over the course of 89 games. Recommended Stories
