Greg Sain named Southern League Hitter of the Week

Greg Sain became the first Mobile BayBear to win the Southern League Hitter of the Week in 2005. Sain, playing for the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, had two three-hit games during the week and hit safely in five of the six games played.

Marietta, GA—The Southern League of Professional Baseball announced today that BayBears first baseman Greg Sain has been named the BC Powder "Hitter of the Week." Sain received the honor for his play during the week of May 16-22. In that span he was 9 for 17 with five RBI's and three runs scored. In addition to batting .529 during the week he also had one homerun and one double.

Sain lead the BayBears and the Southern League in homeruns in the 2004 season with 28, which is the BayBears single season record. He was named BP Powder Hitter of the week two times last season, the weeks of June 18th and August 6th.

Sain was selected in the fifth round of the 2001 draft by the San Diego Padres out of the Univ. of San Diego. He is currently playing his second season with the BayBears after spending all of 2004 on the Southern League Championship Team.

Manny Parra from the Huntsville Stars was named the Pitcher of the Week.
