The San Diego Padres agreed to terms with free agent right-handed pitcher Rudy Seanez on a one-year contract. The deal is reported worth $500K with another $400K in incentives based on appearances. The 40-man roster now stands at 37.

"One of our priorities during the offseason was to strengthen our already sound bullpen," said Towers. "The addition of Seanez, who had a strong second half in 2004, gives Manager Bruce Bochy another solid option late in the game."

Seanez, 36, will be making his third stop with San Diego after having been a part of the Padres bullpen in both the 1993 and 2001 seasons.

The right-hander opened the 2004 campaign with the Kansas City Royals' Triple-A Omaha affiliate where he went 2-1 with a 1.57 ERA (6 ER/34.1 IP) in 24 appearances before having his contract purchased on June 15.

While with the Major League Royals, Seanez went 0-1 with a 3.91 ERA (10 ER/23.0 IP) in 21 relief appearances before being traded to the Florida Marlins in exchange for outfielder Abraham Nuñez on July 31. For the Marlins, Seanez went 3-1 with a 2.74 ERA (7 ER/23.0 IP) in 18 games, all in relief. Overall, Seanez went 3-2 with a 3.33 ERA (17 ER/46.0 IP) with 46 strikeouts in 39 big league outings in 2004. In addition, held opposing batters to a .228 batting average after the All-Star Break.

Seanez has a career record of 20-19 with a 4.37 ERA (162 ER/333.1 IP) and 11 saves in 323 games (all in relief).
