The Portland Beavers added first baseman Joe Gerber from Class AA Mobile and catcher William Killian from the rookie-level Arizona League Padres, and placed left-handed pitcher Edgar Huerta (strained right hip, retroactive to Aug. 30) and right-handed pitcher Chris Rojas (strained rib cage, retroactive to Aug. 29) on the disabled list.

Joe Gerber is seeing his fourth stint in Portland this year. He began the year with the BayBears of the Southern League before a quick callup to Portland in time to play on April 20. He was sent down to Mobile on June 19. He was hitting .274 at the time with Portland. Gerber hit .234 with Mobile before going back up to the Beavers on August 5. Two weeks later he was back in Mobile where he continued to struggle and saw his average drop to .219 before rejoining Portland in time for Tuesday's game.

In 43 games with Portland this season, he is batting .266 with 15 runs scored, eight doubles, one home run and nine RBIs.

William Killian has been with Peoria the entire season. Killian, the Padres third round selection in the 2004 draft. In 40 games with the rookie league Padres, Killian batted .230 with 17 runs scored, seven doubles and 13 RBIs. Killian, out of Chippewa Hills High School in Remus, Michigan, has been hitting well of late down in Peoria. Nine games ago he was hitting .211 and has edged upwards with three multi-hit games.

Edgar Huerta, 24, returns to the DL for a fourth time this season. He is 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA (1er, 7.2ip) in six appearances over two stints with the Beavers in 2004. In six outings with Mobile, Huerta was 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA (7er, 7.0ip).

Chris Rojas, 27, has posted a 1-2 record and a 12.71 ERA (16er, 11.1ip) in six games (2 starts) with the Beavers after going 7-5 with a 3.31 ERA in 19 starts at Mobile to begin the campaign.

Also on Tuesday, catcher Miguel Ojeda was taken off the Beavers roster. Ojeda, 29, was sent to Portland to begin a major league rehabilitation assignment for a left-wrist contusion on Aug. 23 and batted .263 (5-for-19) with two home runs and three RBIs in five games with the Beavers. Ojeda, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Padres on Aug. 16, has a .248 batting average with six homers and 22 RBIs in 50 games with San Diego this year.
