Chris Kolkhorst promoted to Fort Wayne

The San Diego Padres have promoted Christopher Kolkhorst and his .352 average to the Fort Wayne Wizards after Tuesday night's game and Craig Johnson returned to the Eugene Emeralds from Peoria to take his place. Fort Wayne outfielder Jordan Pickens was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday, August 24.

Christopher Kolkhorst, a tenth round pick in 2004 out of Rice, played in 30 games for the Emeralds and had 32 hits in 91 at bats. He also added 22 walks and was hit by five pitches, giving him an unreal .500 on base percentage. He batted .280 in a brief stint with Peoria to begin the year.

Kolkhorst spent the majority of the year playing centerfield, although he did log time in right and one game in left. After a slow July where he hit .136, Kolkhorst turned it on and was hitting .420 in August for the Emeralds. And away from Civic Stadium, where the Emeralds setup shop, Kolkhorst hit .476.

The Wizards are receiving what they hope is the final piece of the puzzle as they head into the final stretch of their playoff run.

Craig Johnson, a 19th round pick in 2004 out of Cal State, spent 16 games with the Emeralds at the beginning of the year before being shipped to Peoria. He batted .263 with four doubles and three RBI's. He made his last appearance in a pinch hitting capacity on July 10 before heading off to Peoria.

Johnson saw action in 34 games with Peoria and batted .288 with eight doubles and 19 RBI's. He was hit by a team high nine pitches and drew 11 walks to give him a .386 on base percentage with Peoria. Johnson was hit by a pitch in four games in a row during one stretch of the season.

Johnson leaves Peoria with a hit in nine of his last 11 games, going 13-for-39. He has had multiple hits in each of his last three games and has had an RBI in each of his last four. Eight of his 19 RBI's have come over his last nine games.
