Steve Delabar added to the Eugene Emeralds
Padres Farm

Posted Aug 22, 2004

The San Diego Padres promoted Steve Delabar from their Arizona complex where he was pitching for the Peoria Padres to the Eugene Emeralds.

The Emeralds had lost two of the best pitchers over the last few weeks. Vern Sterry and Michael Ekstrom both moved up to Fort Wayne and they were short some arms.

Welcome Steve Delabar.

Delabar, a right-hander, made his last start with Peoria on Friday and went five innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits.

Over his last ten innings, the 6-foot-5, 220 pound pitcher has allowed two earned runs and has struck out ten. His highest strike out total was nine in a five inning outing earlier in the year. He has made 14 appearances as a reliever and (mostly) starter and has a 4.37 ERA while going 2-4.

Delabar was a draft and follow from the 2003 MLB Amateur Draft, taken in the 29th round out of Volunteer State Community College in Tennessee . He signed just prior to the 2004 draft.

Delabar will likely move into the starting rotation for Eugene.
