The 30-year-old Valdez went 9-6 with a 5.53 ERA (70 ER/114.0 IP), including a complete game shutout on June 5 against the Milwaukee Brewers. Florida is on the hook for $300K of the contract Valdez signed.
Sterling Hitchcock, Brian Sweeney and Justin Germano are candidates to replace Valdez in the rotation.
Chick is expected to join Lake Elsinore, filling the void created when Jon Huber was traded to Seattle.
