The San Diego Padres added Rich Aurilia to their roster on Monday when they traded a player to be named later or cash considerations to the Seattle Mariners.

Rich Aurilia, 32, appeared in 73 games for the Mariners this season, batting .241 (63-for-261) with four home runs and 28 RBI. The Mariners designated Aurilia, who signed a one-year contract with Seattle prior to the 2004 season, for assignment on July 10 after the club activated Raul IbaƱez from the 15-day disabled list.

A veteran of 10 Major League seasons with the San Francisco Giants (1995-2003) and Mariners (2004), Aurilia is a career .276 hitter (1,065-for-3,859) with 203 doubles, 130 home runs and 501 RBI. A native of Brooklyn, NY, Aurilia became the first National League shortstop to lead the NL in both home runs and RBI for three consecutive seasons since Cincinnati's Dave Concepcion, including his best season in 2001, batting .324 (206-for-636) with 37 doubles, 37 home runs and 97 RBI with the Giants.
