With the San Diego Padres acquisition of Ricky Stone, Jon Knott has been optioned down to Portland.
Padres add Stone, Bragg; Minus Robinson, Vasquez
Stone allowed the only run the Padres allowed on Sunday, a homer to Ken Harvey in a 7-1 win.
Ramon Vazquez, 27, appeared in 27 games for the Padres, batting .106 (5-for-47) with a triple and three RBIs. He batted .231 (6-for-26) with two doubles, two home runs and five RBIs in a recent eight-game rehab assignment with the Beavers prior to being recalled and reinstated from the 15-day disabled list on June 20.
Acquired from Seattle with catcher Tom Lampkin and right-handed pitcher Brett Tomko in exchange for infielder Alex Arias, catcher Ben Davis and right-hander Wascar Serrano on December 11, 2001, Vazquez has batted .259 (238-for-920) with 38 doubles, 10 triples, five homers and 69 RBIs in 283 career games with the Mariners (2001) and Padres (2002-04).
Kerry Robinson, 30, appeared in 61 games for the Padres this season after being acquired in a trade with St. Louis in exchange for outfielder Brian Hunter on March 29. He batted .280 (21-for-75) with two doubles, three RBIs, 11 runs scored and eight stolen bases. In parts of six major league seasons with Tampa Bay (1998), Cincinnati (1999), St. Louis (2001-03) and San Diego (2004), Robinson has batted .265 (173-for-654) with 21 doubles, 49 RBIs and 32 stolen bases over 426 games.
Donovan Osborne, 35, was 2-2 with an 8.56 ERA (13er, 13.2ip) in seven games (2 starts) with the Beavers after beginning the season with the New York Yankees.
Roger Deago, 27, appeared in one game with Lake Elsinore prior to being transferred to Portland, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings vs. Lancaster on July 2.
The left-hander began the season at Class AA Mobile, posting a 0-1 record and a 2.25 ERA (5er, 20.0ip) in 14 relief appearances with the BayBears. Deago was later loaned to Tijuana in the Mexican League, where he was 0-4 with a 14.49 ERA (22er, 13.2ip) in six games (5 starts).
The native of Panama began his professional career with the Padres in 2003 after signing as a non-drafted free agent following the 2002 campaign. He was 8-7 with a 4.03 ERA (53er, 118.1ip) in 26 games (20 starts) with the BayBears, appearing in two games with San Diego, where he was 0-1 with a 7.84 ERA (9er, 10.1ip) in two starts with the club.
Additionally on Sunday, the Padres signed free agent outfielder Darren Bragg, who last played with Triple-A Columbus in the New York Yankees system.
Bragg, 34, appeared in 70 games with the New York Yankees' Triple-A Columbus affiliate, batting .282 (77-for-283) with eight home runs and 29 RBI. With the Atlanta Braves in 2003, he batted .241 (39-for-162) with nine RBI and 21 runs scored. Over parts of 10 Major League seasons with the Seattle Mariners (1994-96), Boston Red Sox (1996-1998), St. Louis Cardinals (1999), Colorado Rockies (2000), New York Mets (2001) and Braves (2002-03), Bragg has a career batting average of .258 (608-for-2360) with 42 home runs, 142 doubles and 251 RBI in 869 games.
Bragg was 1-for-1 in his pinch hit appearance on Sunday, getting an infield single in the seventh.
