Byrdak traded; Washington to Mobile and more
Gautreau is riding a pretty hot streak heading into Portland. He was 21-for-57 over his last 19 games for a .368 average, bumping a .219 average up to .259.
A first-round pick (14th overall) of the Padres in the 2001 draft, Gautreau appeared in two games with the Beavers at the end of his rookie 2001 campaign, logging two hits in seven at-bats (.286) with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Gautreau spent the entire 2003 season with Mobile, batting .242 with a career-high 14 home runs and 55 RBIs in 122 contests.
Rico Washington, 26, was batting .192 with a home run and 13 RBIs in 47 games with Portland at the time of his transfer. After starting the season with Portland, Washington returns to Mobile, where he batted .244 with 14 home runs and 60 RBIs in 111 games during the 2003 campaign.
He has not had a hit in multiple games since April 24-27 when he had a four game hitting streak.
Tim Byrdak, 30, was traded to the Orioles, his fourth major league organization, for future considerations. The left-hander began the season in extended spring training before being transferred to Portland on April 20.
With the Beavers, Byrdak, the winner of Monday night's game against Fresno, was 3-0 with a 5.45 ERA (23er, 38.0ip) in 20 appearances, which included two spot starts. He had allowed runs in his past nine appearances before Monday's scoreless outing and allowed runs in 12 of his 20 appearances.
Mike Richardson, a catcher/outfielder, has been promoted to Portland more out of necessity than merit. Richardson will replace Humberto Quintero as the backup catcher. He batted just .222 with Mobile after batting .256 for Lake Elsinore. He had two homers and three RBI's in limited action for Mobile.
Jesse Roman's demotion comes as no surprise. Roman was hitting just .169 on the year and was in a 11-for-73 slump. He did hit a game winning three run homer to clinch the first half title for Mobile.
