Joey Hamilton released, Osborne signed
Hamilton, who started his career in the San Diego Padres organization, signed with the team for a second time during the past off-season after two-plus campaigns in the Cincinnati Reds organization. Hamilton spent his first seven seasons in the organization, posting a 55-44 record with a 3.83 ERA in 146 appearances at the major league level with the club, including appearances in the 1998 National League Championship Series and World Series with the club.
Donovan Osborne, 34, was placed on the Beavers temporarily inactive list.
A veteran of nine major league seasons, Osborne began the 2004 campaign with the New York Yankees, posting a 2-0 record and a 7.13 ERA (14er, 17.2ip) in nine appearances (2 starts). Osborne, who did not pitch in 2003, signed with the Yankees prior to spring training this season and was released by the club on May 26.
Originally a first-round pick (13th overall) of the St. Louis Cardinals in the 1990 draft, Osborne is 49-46 with a 4.03 ERA in nine major league seasons spent with the Cardinals, Chicago Cubs and Yankees. He was 0-1 with a 6.19 ERA in 11 relief appearances with the Cubs in 2002 after sitting out the 2000 and 2001 seasons on the heels of a 10-year stay in the Cardinals organization.
