Sears on DL, Nieves Transferred
To replace Sears on the Beavers' 24-man roster, the team added Jose Nieves, who signed with the San Diego Padres organization during spring training.
Nieves, 28, spent the 2003 season in the St. Louis Cardinals' and New York Yankees' organizations, batting a combined .211 (46-for-217) in 67 games between Triple-A Memphis and Columbus. A veteran of 12 professional seasons, Nieves has played 212 major league games with Chicago (NL) and Anaheim. He began his career in 1992 with the Milwaukee Brewers organization after being signed as a non-drafted free agent that year.
