Bart Miadich, 27, had one appearance for the Angels in 2003 and could be ticketed for a permanent stay in Portland.
"I hope he doesn't settle in at Portland just because it's home. I don't think that's his intention," Tye Waller, director of player development for the Padres, told The Oregonian.
Miadich, a 6-4 right-hander has a mid-90's fastball who is hit or miss.In the past two seasons, he has walked 105 batters in 132 innings and struck out 157 over that same span.
He has pitched in the Pacific Coast League in each of the past four seasons, compiling 58 saves for Salt Lake.
"It just hasn't clicked for him yet and we're hoping he can come over here and get it working so he can be part of the big club," Waller said.
