SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Padres today claimed outfielder Henri Stanley off waivers from the Houston Astros and added him to their 40-man roster. Padres Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.

Stanley, 25, played the 2003 campaign at Triple-A New Orleans. In 135 games with the Zephyrs, Stanley batted .292 with 11 home runs, 28 doubles, 48 RBI and 15 stolen bases. He spent the 2002 season at Double-A Round Rock where he batted .314 with 16 home runs and 72 RBI in 127 games with the Express. He was named the team's Most Valuable Player as well as a Baseball America Texas League All-Star after leading the club in triples (10), slugging percentate (.542) and extra-base hits (62). He joined the Houston organization after signing as a non-drafted free agent on June 15, 2002.

A collegiate teammate of Padres shortstop Khalil Greene and minor league first baseman Michael Johnson while at Clemson University, Stanley has a career batting average of .296 with 45 home runs, 96 doubles, 216 RBI and 69 stolen bases with a .389 on-base percentage over four minor league seasons.
