San Francisco starter Kirk Rueter entered Wednesday night's game against the San Diego Padres…
Giants 7, Padres 1
Lawrence (8-15) gave up five runs on nine hits over six innings.
Jose Cruz provided the fifth run for the Giants with a solo shot in the sixth.
Phil Nevin knocked in the only Padre run with a 439 foot bomb in the seventh.
Alfonzo, who had a two-run homer on Tuesday night, hit a two-run shot in the eighth off Joe Roa to give the Giants a 7-1 lead. It was the eighth home run for the Giants thus far in the series and the third of the game.
Kirk Rueter (8-5) won for the first time in 10 starts as he allowed one run in 6 1-3 innings. The Giants are 18-3 in Rueter's 21 career starts against the Padres.
The Padres announced contract extensions Wednesday with Jerry Coleman and Ted Leitner as their radio broadcast team.
In recognition of the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 tragedy, 30 members of the New York City Police Department will attend Thursday's game. A group from the San Diego Fire Department will present the nation's colors and a moment of silence will be observed to honor those who died as a result of the attack.
