Expos Biddle mad at call in Padres 1-0 win

Sputtering offenses met in San Diego. The Montreal Expos and San Diego Padres went into extra innings with the score tied at 0-0. The Friars broke the tie in the tenth on a bases loaded walk for a 1-0 victory.

Javier Vasquez pitched a gem for the Montreal expos and even struck out the side in the ninth inning. Vasquez allowed three hits, one walk and struck out ten using just 99 pitches to get it done and having just one three ball count, and that came in the first inning against Mark Kotsay.

Meanwhile, Adam Eaton pitched 7-1/3 scoreless innings allowing four hits and two walks while striking out five. Eaton did not allow his first hit until the sixth inning.

It would be decided in the bottom of the tenth. With two outs and Rocky Biddle (4-7) in, Gary Bennett singled to left. Gary Matthews Jr. followed with a single and Sean Burroughs was hit by a pitch loading the bases. Mark Kotsay drew a walk on a close pitch that had Biddle yelling, but the game was over… a 1-0 Padres win.

Mike Matthews (4-4) got the win pitching a scoreless top of the tenth.

Minors:

Portland scored six runs in the fifth inning and led Edmonton at the print time.

Chattanooga scored six runs in the eighth inning to beat the Mobile BayBears 6-5. JJ Trujillo (1-2) gave up four runs -- three earned -- and four hits without retiring a batter to get tagged with the loss.

Lake Elsinore lost 5-2 to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes with an error causing three unearned runs. Trevor Hoffman returned and pitched one scoreless inning.

Fort Wayne beat West Michigan 7-3. Cory Doyne went 6.2 innings allowing just one unearned run on four hits, three walks, while striking out four.
