Comeback Win in Throwbacks

The San Diego Padres came back from a three run deficit against the Montreal Expos, scoring two in the sixth and three in the seventh to win 5-3.

Brian Lawrence gave up three runs over the first two innings before settling in and retiring eleven in a row. He finished the day after six innings pitched allowing six hits and three runs.

Sean Burroughs went 2-for-3, drew a walk and was hit by a pitch while batting in the leadoff spot for the first time in his two major league seasons. He scored in the seventh when Mark Kotsay hit his fifth home run of the season.

The Padres started their comeback with two runs in the sixth off Montreal starter Tomo Ohka. Ramon Vazquez tripled to drive in Rondell White, then scored on a single by Gary Bennett. Bennett drew a bases loaded walk in the seventh plating the last run of the evening.

Scott Linebrink (3-2) pitched one inning for the win, Jay Witasick pitched the eighth and Rod Beck closed for his 18th save in 18 opportunities.

Notes:

The Expos and Padres wore throwback uniforms from 1969, when they joined the National League as expansion clubs.

Padres closer Trevor Hoffman, returning from a right shoulder injury, will begin a rehabilitation assignment on Saturday in the first of two appearances with Class A Lake Elsinore.

Minors:

Yamid Haad and Tagg Bozied each hit three-run home runs in the eighth inning as the Portland Beavers blanked the Edmonton Trappers 13-0 on Friday night. Mike Bynum (7-10) pitched 7 2-3 shutout innings, allowing just four hits. Xavier Nady was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.

Jake Gautreau went 4-4 with two RBI's in a 7-5 Mobile win over Chattanooga.

Darwin Soto picked up his seventh win of the season for Fort Wayne. The Wizards beat the Whitecaps in the tenth inning after Soto failed to pickup the save in the ninth.
