Loretta Gets Two year Extension
Loretta has been the team MVP for the San Diego Padres in 2003, entering Friday's game with the Reds batting a team-leading .321. He also leads the team with 25 doubles, a .384 on-base percentage and 51 runs scored, and is third on the club with 51 RBIs.990 fielding percentage, which is second among NL second basemen.
Loretta came to the Padres after playing last season with the Milwaukee Brewers and Houston Astros, compiling a career batting average of .293 over parts of nine Major League seasons.
The 31-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Padres on December 16, 2002, and is making $1.25 million this season. Terms of the extension were not immediately known.
