MadFriars' Daily Farm Report August 18

Great pitching and timely hitting carried the A ball teams to victory but it was Andrew Cashner in El Paso making another rehab start that will draw all the attention.

El Paso Chihuahuas 4 - Memphis Redbirds 7

Key Statistics: RHP Andrew Cashner 5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, BB, 4 Ks; CF Cameron Maybin 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI; 1B Cody Decker 1-4, 3B, 2 RBI.

Prospect Watch 63 pitches (45 strikes) was all it took Andrew Cashner to get through five innings. It wasn’t the cleanest games for Cash as he once again gave up a home run, this time a two-run shot in the second inning. With OD struggling it is only a matter of time before Cashner returns to the big league rotation.

The San Antonio Missions had the day off.

Storm 6– Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 1

Key Statistics: RHP Elliot Morris 6 IP, 4 H, ER, 8 Ks; CF Mallex Smith 1-3, RS, BB, SB (84); 2B Benji Gonzalez 2-5, 2 RS, RBI; 3B Gabriel Quintana 3-5, RS.

Prospect Watch What a night for the former Angel (system) pitcher Elliot Morris. Despite the fact that he was nearly tagged with the loss, he had easily his best start of the year. Since joining the Storm, Morris is 2-3 with a 2.70 ERA. The eight strikeouts tied his Cal League high (set June 12th when he was still with Inland Empire), and one off from a career high that he set in May with Burlington (MWL).

TinCaps 3– Great Lakes Loons 2 (10 innings)

Key Statistics: RHP Jimmy Brasoban 5 IP, H, ER, 3 BB, 4 Ks; SS Trea Turner 2-5, RS; C Ryan Miller 2-4, 2B, RS

Prospect Watch Flame throwing closer Ryan Butler blew his first save of the year. Even with the run allowed Butler’s ERA still stands at an impressive 1.10… Trea Turner's speed won the game. He led off the 10th with a swinging bunt down the third base line, and then moved to third on a sharp single to right. Finally he scored on a sacrifice fly from Reyes to end the game giving the TinCaps a much needed win..

Ems 2 – Hilsboro Hops 9

Key Statistics: RHP Michael Kelly 5 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, BB, 6 Ks; 2B Jalen Goree 1-4, HR (5), RBI.

Prospect Watch Kelly retired the first 12 of 13 batters to breeze through the first four innings. The fifth was a completely different game. The first eight batters reached base safely, although none hit the ball squarely. A seeing eye single, after an infield single, after error, after another couple ground ball singles; everything was just finding a hole. When all was said and done Kelly had allowed eight hits and a hit batsman in one inning of work.
