MadFriars' Daily Farm Report July 30

"The call came in and we all got quiet," Missions right-hander James Needy said. "We heard our coach go, well, I can't say what he said, but we all knew what happened."

What happened was -- after consulting with first base umpire Hernandez, the official scorer reversed a ruling on an infield single. In changing the play from a hit to an error, the scorer gave San Antonio its first no-hitter since 1984.

El Paso Chihuahuas 8– Las Vegas 51’s 5

Key Statistics: RHP Donn Roach 5.2 IP, 5 H, ER, 5 BB, 2 Ks; SS Jace Peterson 2-4, RS, BB, E; CF Rymer Liriano 2-5, 2B, RS; 1B Cody Decker 2-4, HR (15), RBI, 2 RS; 2B Taylor Lindsey 2-5, 2B, HR (9), 2 RS, 2 RBI.

Prospect Watch Biggest news of the night was after a ninth inning double Rymer Liriano pulled up lame at second. He grabbed his hamstring, but was eventually able to walk off the field under his own power. Hopefully, its just a pulled muscle and wont require more than a day or two of rest… Taylor Lindsey hit his first two extra-base hits with El Paso. In 11 games Lindsey has only struck out three times.

San Antonio Missions 6 – Corpus Christi Hooks 0

Key Statistics: RHP James Needy 7 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 7 Ks; RHP Frank Garces IP, 0 H, 0 BB, K; RHP R.J. Alvarez 1 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks; RF Alex Dickerson 2-4, 2B, RS, RBI.

Prospect Watch NO-HITTER IN Texas!! For the first time since 1984 the Missions have thrown a no hitter. In fact it would have been a perfect game if it was not for a Diego Goris error (though he did hit a two run home run). If the no hitter wasn’t enough Needy outdueled first overall pick Mark Appel (who just had controversy over his promotion). Not a bad day in the Texas League.

Storm 1 – Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 11

Key Statistics: RHP Tayron Guerrero IP, K; CF Mallex Smith 1-3, RS, BB, 3 SB (74).

Prospect Watch Tayron Guerrero was a Futures Game selection, looked great and yet has only appeared in four games since and each game has been at least four days apart. You have to wonder if the Padres are just trying to limit his innings or if there is something else going on. Guerrero threw 40 innings last year and is now at 48 in 2014.

TinCaps 4 – Great Lakes Loons 0

Key Statistics: RHP Kyle Lloyd 6 IP, 2 H, BB, 8 Ks; DH Trea Turner 2-5, HR (1), 2 RBI; CF Ronnie Richardson 2-5, RS; SS Josh VanMeter 2-4, 2B, RS.

Prospect Watch TinCaps climb to within a game of first after another win. In his last two starts Kyle Lloyd has gone 11.2 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 15 K. He also has the season high for strikeouts with 110 on the season and 13 in a game on July 12th.

Ems 7 – Salem Keizer Volcanoes 10

Key Statistics: SS Franchy Cordero 2-4, HR (7), 2 RS, 2 RBI, E (22); 1B Marcus Davis 2-2, 2B, 2 BB; 3B Nick Vitter 1-3, 3B, 2 RS, 2 RBI, BB.
