Chihuahuas 8 - Fresno Grizzlies 7
Key Statistics:SS Everth Cabrera 2-4, BB; 2B Jedd Gyorko 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI, BB; RF Rymer Liriano 2-5; 1B Jake Goebbert 3-4, 2B, 3B, RBI, BB; LF Jonathan Galvez 1-2, 2B, RBI, BB; PR/CF Rico Noel 1-1, 2 BB; LHP Juan Oramas 5.1 IP 5 H 5 R 5 ER BB 6 Ks; RHP Hector Ambriz 1.0 IP RHP Jerry Sullivan (W, 2-0) 1.1 IP 2 H R ER 2 Ks.
Prospect Watch:The Chihuahuas continue to have a storybook existence. They draw record crowds, have some very fun players and have crowd pleasing walk-off wins in the ninth inning. On Saturday night Jake Goebbert, in his first game back since being with the big club, doubled off of former Padres’ manager Bruce Bochy’s son Brett, to lead off the inning. After being moved over on a sacrifice bunt he was brought home by C Rocky Gale’s fielder’s choice to win the game...Good news for San Diego fans as both Cabrera and Gyorko had solid games on their rehab assignments....Goebbert was a home run short of the cycle...Relief pitcher Jerry Sullivan is having a strong July with 10 strikeouts in 9.1 innings against only a a walk for a 0.96 ERA.

Frisco RoughRiders 2 -San Antonio 1
Prospect Watch:Josh Geer made his first relief appearance of the year and he will probably be the first to tell you walking the leadoff batter is usually going to come back to bite you. Geer was able to get a pair of outs before Frisco singled home the winning run with two outs, the lead-off batter who walked to begin the inning...Joe Ross made his second appearance in AA, and his first start (he relieved Jessie Hahn in his first appearance) and looked great. He can be up and down, but when he’s on he has as much talent as any pitcher in the organization.
Storm 3 - Bakersfield Blaze 1
Key StatisticsCF Mallex Smith 2-4, 2 SB (21); SS Jose Rondon 0-2, 2 BB; 2B Benji Gonzalez 2-3, 2 RBI; RHP Rafael De Paula (W, 1-0) 6.0 IP H R ER 2 BB 3 Ks HR; RHP Matthew Shepherd 1.0 IP 2 H K; RHP Brandon Alger (S, 10) 2.0 IP 2 Ks.
Prospect Watch:Mallex Smith showed last night why he may be the most exciting player in the Padres’ organization. He led off the game with a single, then stole second and third and came home on a single by 2B Benji Gonzalez before the other team had even recorded an out...Smith, who didn’t steal a base last night, now has 21 stolen bases in 25 games...Benji Gonzalez, 24, whom the Padres nabbed from the Pirates organization is having a nice season at .318/.402/.457.

Prospect WatchEveryday we rave about what Trea Turner is doing in Fort Wayne, and I know it can sound repetitive, but you have to write something when a player has 20 hits in 11 games for a .455/.520/.595 slash line...The TinCaps got up 4-0 at the end of two innings and never looked back...Big Franmil Reyes has three home runs in July...Second strong start by Jeffrey Enloe, 24, a thirty-seventh round pick out of the University of Central Arkansas in 2013. He has bounced back in forth between Fort Wayne and San Antonio this year.

Prospect WatchAfter giving up 14 runs last night, the Emerald’s pitching, led by Michael Kelly, put on a much better performance. Kelly, a former first round supplemental draft pick in 2011, has for the most part been pretty good. He’s had a couple of hiccups, but in six of his nine starts he has allowed one run or less...Franchy Cordero is second on the team in total bases and is second on the team in home runs with six.
