Chihuahuas 12 - Salt Lake Bees 10
Key Statistics:CF Rico Noel 1-5, BB; 2B Jace Peterson 2-4, 4 RBI, 2 BB; SS Tyler Greene 1-5, BB; LF Jonathan Galvez 3-5, RBI, BB; 3B Chris Nelson 1-4, 2 BB; 1B Cody Decker 3-6, 2 HR (12), 3 RBI; DH Jake Lemmerman 0-3, 2 BB; C Rocky Gale 2-4, 2 RBI; LHP Jason Lane 5.2 IP 14 H 9 R 8 ER BB 3 Ks; RHP Michael Nix (BS,1)(W, 4-3) 1.1 IP 2 H R K; RHP Hector Ambriz (S,9) 1.0 IP H K.
Prospect Watch:The Chihuahuas won a wild game by putting up runs in the eighth and ninth innings to break a 10 all tie game in the seventh inning...Some people have in the past given us a bit of a hard time for being too much on the Cody Decker bandwagon. While neither Ben or I deny that we are on it because he is one of the better interviews in the system, he can also get really, really hot as we are seeing right now. Decker now has four home runs in six games for a .417/.440/.1000 slash line in July...Jonathan Galvez continues to play well wherever they put him at third or in left field at .311/.377/.503...Jason Lane has an ERA of 4.95 but its also a product of having to pitch in one too many of the PCL’s Thunderdomes. El Paso is still a hitter’s park, but at home his ERA is over a full point lower at 3.83.

Prospect Watch:Today San Antonio reversed the 2-1 deficit from last night on Cory Spangenberg opening the game with his first home run of the season and SS Brian Bixler bringing home Austin Hedges with a walk-off single in the ninth...Justin Hancock looked good in his first appearance since mid-April in San Antonio...Along with Cody Decker, Cory Spangenberg is the hottest hitter in the organization right now at .500/.524/.800 in July.
Storm 9 - High Desert Mavericks 0
Key StatisticsCF Mallex Smith 3-5, 2 SB (10); 2B Benji Gonzalez 1-3, RBI, BB; 3B Gabriel Quintana 2-5, HR (12), 3 RBI; Dh Jeremy Baltz 1-4, RBI, BB; LF Corey Adamson 2-4; RF Alberth Martiniez 3-4, RBI; RHP Zach Eflin (W, 7-5) 6.0 IP H 4 BB K; RHP Adam Cimber 1.0 IP 2 H; RHP Matthew Shepherd 1.0 IP; RHP Brandon Alger 1.0 IP H.
Prospect Watch:The Storm have now scored 21 runs in the past two games...Mallex Smith has now pushed his OBP up to .361 and has 10 stolen bases in 11 attempts in eight games since being promoted from Fort Wayne. He is everything someone would want in a lead-off hitter and now has 58 stolen bases between Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore...A very typical outing by Zach Eflin, not very many strikeouts or walks but he threw six innings and didn’t give up a run. In 18 starts he has given up less than four runs in 14 of them and leads the Storm in innings pitched.

Prospect WatchThe losing streak is now at 10 and counting...The other day we used the “Whack-A-Mole” analogy for the TinCaps’ problems. A few days ago they couldn’t generate offense, now it’s pitching...Ryan Miller now leads the team in home runs with nine...Jake Bauers has finally fallen out of the Midwest League batting leaders with his batting average “plunging” to .332...LF Nick Shulz, a free agent signee out of San Jose State has gotten off to a really nice start in his first nine games at .364/.400/.455.

Yesterday he was 0-3 with three errors and the day before he had a clean game at shortstop and was 3-4 with a home run. Again, he’s only 19...OF/1B Marcus Davis is now hitting .324 and leading the Emeralds in home runs with five....Seth Lucio, a 2014 twelfth round draft pick out of Tennessee Tech, has yet to give up a run in seven games.
