MadFriars Daily Farm Report: July 5

Luis Domoromo

Both El Paso and San Antonio lose. Lake Elsinore takes its revenge as Fort Wayne drops their eighth in a row. Both Eugene and the AZL Padres have forgettable nights.

Salt Lake Bees 5 - Chihuahuas 3 -

Key Statistics:LF Reymond Fuentes 1-3, BB; RF Jeff Francoeur 1-4, 2B; 1B Chris Nelson 1-3, BB; C Cody Decker 2-4, HR (10), RBI; LHP Juan Oramas 4.2 IP 6 H 5 R 5 ER 2 BB 4 Ks; RHP Keyvius Sampson 2.1 IP H BB 2 Ks.

Prospect Watch:Salt Lake broke the game open in the fifth with three runs when a costly throwing error by catcher Cody Decker with two outs allowed the inning to continue as the Bees were able to add two more runs. Decker, who hadn't caught a game since May 4 because of the strong performances of Adam Moore and Rocky Gale, was a little rusty as Salt Lake was three for three in stolen base attempts. On the positive side, his offense at the plate is still red-hot as he is hitting .389/.421/.833 over the last five games...A solid relief appearance by Keyvius Sampson who may be settling into the role of a reliever after a career as a starter.

Springfield Cardinals 2 - San Antonio 1

Key Statistics:2B Cory Spangenberg 2-4, 2B; LF Cody Overbeck 2-4; RHP Bryce Morrow (L,1-2) 7.0 IP 6 H 2 R ER BB 5 Ks; LHP Jeff Ibarra 2.0 IP 3 H BB 4 Ks.

Prospect Watch:Another tough loss for the Mission's pitching staff as Bryce Morrow, who was one of the better pitchers in the system in June, gave up only a sole run but once again San Antonio had trouble generating offense....Since being promoted from Lake Elsinore, Morrow has a 1.41 ERA in 32 innings....In his first four games back from the disabled list Cory Spangenberg has quite a slash line at .500/.529/.688 with a pair of stolen bases.

Storm 12 - High Desert Mavericks 5

Key StatisticsCF Mallex Smith 2-6, SB (8); 2B Benji Gonzalez 3-5, 2B, RBI, BB; SS Diego Goris 2-5, 2B, BB; 3B Gabriel Quintana 4-6, 2B, HR (11), 2 RBI; LF Jeremy Baltz 2-6, 2B; RF Alberth Martiniez 2-5; 1B Duanel Jones 2-2, HR (5), 2 RBI; 1B Luis Domoromo 2-3, 2B, HR (7), 2 RBI; DH Corey Adamson 3-5, 3B, 2 RBI; C Jeremy Rodriguez 1-3, RBI, 2 BB; RHP Bryan Rodriguez 4.2 IP 6 H 3 R 2 ER 5 BB 2 Ks; RHP Roman Madrid (W, 2-0) 2.1 IP H 3 Ks.

Prospect Watch:The Storm don't like to lose and tonight they took it out on High Desert for handing them a loss on Friday. Every hitter in the lineup was on at least twice as the team racked up nine extra-base hits...Mallex Smith is off to a slow start with a .192 batting average but he is still running when he gets on with eight stolen bases in eight games...Corey Adamson is now tied for the Cal League lead in triples with seven.

Prospect Watch A tough night for two prospects that were coming off of strong performances. SS Franchy Cordero had a big night last night and today it went the opposite way. Cordero made three errors, two fielding and one throwing, to go along with an 0-3 night at the plate. In 12 games at shortstop with Eugene he now has nine errors...Michael Kelly, after three strong performances in which he gave up a combined total of one earned run, had his worst night of the year with seven earned runs.
