MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: June 9

All Star Adys Portillo

On the day five Missions were named to the Texas League All Star team, the Missions were the only team on the farm to win.

Chihuahuas 3 – New Orleans Zephyrs 5 (11 innings)

Key Statistics RHP Donn Roach 5.2 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K; 1B Jake Goebbert 2-4, HR (9), RBI; C Rocky Gale 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI

Prospect Watch: Donn Roach made his first AAA start and it was a successful one. The walks were still an issue, but Roach ended with no earned runs allowed and a 3:1 GO/FO ratio. Coming on in relief for Roach was…. Keyvius Sampson. Making his second relief appearance, Sampson still couldn't find home plate. This time he didn't allow a hit, but also walked two and allowed a run to score. Over his last 24 innings, Sampson has walked 23 hitters.

Missions 7 – Corpus Christi Hooks 2

Key Statistics RHP Jesse Hahn 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, ER, 3 BB, 5 K; LF/CF Rymer Liriano 2-4, 2B, 2 RS, RBI, BB; 1B Jason Hagerty 2-5, 2B, RS, 2 RBI, C Austin Hedges 1-4, 2 RBI, RS, PB

Prospect Watch: Five players were named to the Texas League all star game. CF Rymer Liriano, C Austin Hedges, RHP James Needy, RHP Johnny Barbato, and RHP Adys Portillo. Way to go gentlemen! Special applause for Adys Portillo who has flourished since going to the pen.

Storm 3– Inland Empire 66ers 4

Key Statistics RF Hunter Renfroe 1-4, 2 K; SS Diego Goris 0-2, RS, 2 BB; 2B Benji Gonzalez 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI; RHP Bryce Morrow 7 IP, 7 H, 4 R, ER, BB, 6 K

Prospect Watch: SS Diego Goris had his 14 game hit streak snapped. As disappointing as that is he is still hitting nearly .450 during the two week span. He has raised his batting average to a team leading .340. His batting average is also top 10 in the Cal League. It is only a matter of time before we see Goris in San Antonio.

TinCaps 1 – Bowling Green Hot Rods 2

Key Statistics RF Franmil Reyes 2-2, 2B RS; SS Josh VanMeter 1-2, 2B, 2 BB, RBI; RHP Walker Weickel 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K (L, 1-7)

Prospect Watch: Poor Walker Weickel, he cant catch a break. He is 0-5 in his last nine starts despite having five quality starts during that time. Remember in the MWL it is uncommon to see pitchers go more than five or six innings before the all star break. However, Weickel has done this in six of his last nine starts. Over Weickel's first nine starts hitters were hitting .305 off of him. Over his last three starts… .209. His record during those starts? 0-1.
