MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: May 28

Fernando Perez has been a star in Fort Wayne

Tough day for the system's pitchers. Including Stauffer, the starters today went 18.1 IP and allowed 32 hits, 23 earned runs and 11 walks

Chihuahuas 7 – Las Vegas 51s 13

Key Statistics 2B Jace Peterson 3-5, 2B, 3B, 2 RS, RBI; LF Travis Buck 2-5, 2B, RS, 2 RBI; C Rocky Gale 4-5, 2 2B, 2 RS; RHP Keyvius Sampson 3 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, 2 K; RHP Juan Oramas 4 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 K.

Prospect Watch: El Paso's best pitchers today were named Cody Decker (1 IP, 1 H) and Jeff Francouer (1 IP, 1 BB). Go figure. Position players out pitched two pitchers that have been on the 40 man roster in the last six months...On the bright side Jace Peterson was a home run shy of the cycle. Peterson, who until this year only played shortstop, is tearing the cover off of the ball and has recently been the Chihuahuas starting second baseman. Could this be a sign of something happening in San Diego?

Missions 6 – NW Arkansas Naturals 5

Key Statistics 1B Jason Hagerty 2-4, RS, 2 RBI, BB; C Austin Hedges 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI; RHP Josh Geer 5 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, BB, 3 K; RHP Adys Portillo 2 IP, H, 3 K.

Prospect Watch: The Padres added Yeison Asencio to the 40 man because they thought he was a legitimate prospect. He showed it in the ninth inning as he scored from second on an infield single. After starting the year struggling to hit over .200, Ascencio is hitting .400 over the last two weeks, and todays walk off "single" proved just how valuable he can be to a team… Three players attempted to steal against Austin Hedges, none of them made it…With another two scoreless innings, Portillo's May line now looks like 12.2 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 4 BB, 20 Ks.

Storm 2– Lancaster Jethawks 6

Key Statistics RF Hunter Renfroe 1-2, 2B, RS, 2 BB; 1B Duanel Jones 2-4; RHP Zach Eflin 5 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, BB, 3 K.

Prospect Watch: Hunter Renfroe didn't strike out. For only the second time in his last nine games Renfroe did not strike out and his two walks also matched his combined walked total over the last two weeks. Unfortunately he was the only member of the Storm to have a good game.

TinCaps 12 – Bowling Green Hot Rods 7

Key Statistics 2B Fernando Perez 2-4, HR (6), 2 RS, 2 RBI; RF Franmil Reyes 1-4, RS, 3 RBI; DH Dane Phillips 2-4, 2B, 2 RS, RBI; 1B Jake Bauers 2-4, HR (3), 4 RBI; C Ryan Miller 2-4, 2 RS, HR (4).

Prospect Watch: TinCaps score 10 unanswered runs over the final three innings to win the game. The offensive barrage saw each member of the TinCaps get a hit. Fernando Perez has been slumping recently having just one extra base hit since May 18th, and hopefully the home run will jolt him back to the .320 hitter he has been for most of the season.
