MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: May 5th

Headley returns to action in Lake Elsinore, while Jake Lemmerman sends the fans in El Paso home happy with a walk-off grand slam.

Chihuahuas 13 - Sacramento River Cats 10

Key Statistics 2B Brooks Conrad 3-5, 2 2B, 2 RS, RBI; 1B Tommy Medica 2-5, 2B, HR (2), 5 RBI; C Adam Moore 4-5, RS; SS Jake Lemmerman 3-4, 2B, HR (1), 3 RS, 5 RBI; RHP Matt Wisler 3 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, 3 K .

Prospect Watch: Rough welcome to the PCL for Matt Wisler. Hopefully this will be a learning experience for him. If you do not throw strikes you will not last long. On the day Wisler threw 42 strikes and 36 balls, walking four in only three innings. By comparison Wisler had only walked six batters in 30 innings this year in San Antonio… Tommy Medica hit a grand-slam for El Paso. He has looked really good so far at the plate, and it's only a matter of time before #freeTommyMedica pops up.

Prospect Watch: After a two home run game Rymer Liriano returned to an 0-4 one… Austin Hedges committed two errors, giving him five on the year.,, The only positives from the game were Adys Portillo and Leonel Campos both tossing a scoreless inning. Portillo's ERA lowered to a stellar 1.80 ERA despite a WHIP of nearly 2.00

Storm 7 – Lancaster Jethawks 4

Key Statistics DH Chase Headley 1-3, 2B, RS, 2 RBI, IBB, K: 2B Benji Gonzalez 2-3, 2 2B, 2 RS, 2 RBI; RF Hunter Renfroe 1-4, 3B, RBI; RHP Joe Ross 6 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 Ks.

Prospect Watch: Chase Headley made his first rehab appearances and from all accounts of the game looked in mid-season form. He was taking good swings, hustling to first and that was about it as he was the DH. He did buy the post-game spread (Mexican). He should be at third tomorrow, but the important thing is to get him as many at-bats as possible for the big club...Joe Ross' numbers were not fantastic today, but he was just given the Cal League pitcher of the week award. He was also lauded as having one of the best mound presence in the system. Numbers can lie, but Ross has a bright future.

Key Statistics CF Mallex Smith 2-4, 3B, RS, SB (20); LHP Payton Baskette 5.1 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K.

Prospect Watch: Not many bright spots. Smith stole his Midwest League leading twentieth base on the night...Baskette picked up his first loss of the year. After three straight three-hit games, Jake Bauers is 0-6, with three strikeouts in the last two games… Dustin Peterson is 2-18, although does have an RBI in his last four games..
