MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: May 4

El Paso has been generating some serious offense and Rymer Liriano is heating up in San Antonio. The Storm win their ninth game in ten tries and Fort Wayne has a day to forget.

Chihuahuas 7 - Sacramento River Cats 4

Key Statistics:LF Reymond Fuentes 1-3, BB; DH Kyle Blanks 2-4, HR (9), 3 RBI; C Cody Decker 2-4; RHP Tim Sexton 5.0 IP 4 H 3 R 3 ER BB 2 Ks HR; RHP Jorge Reyes (BS, 1) (W, 2-2) 2.0 IP BB 4 Ks; RHP Kevin Quackenbush (S, 6) 1.0 IP

Prospect Watch: The River Cats were up 3-0 until the Chihuahuas stormed back in the bottom of the sixth with four runs and added three more in the seventh after Sacramento tied the game up at the top of the inning for their third straight win...Kyle Blanks hit his ninth home run of the year and now has 20 RBIs to go along with a 1.014 OPS. How good has Blanks been and bad has the players he could potentially replace on the big club been? Blanks has more home runs and RBI than Will Venable, Seth Smith and Yonder Alonso combined. Yes, it is AAA but Blanks needs to be an option for Bud Black to put in the lineup...Cody Decker has now played three different positions in three days and replied with multiple hit days on each. On April 25 he had an OPS of .711 and now it is at .835...and Quackenbush is now a perfect six-for six in save opportunities with a 1.26 ERA

Missions 6 - Corpus Christi Hooks 4

Key Statistics:2B Casey McElroy 2-5, HR (1), RBI; CF Rymer Liriano 3-5 2 HR5), 2 RBI; 3B Adam Buschini 2-4, 2B; RF Yeison Ascencio 2-4; RHP Devin Jones (W, 4-1) 5.0 IP 4 H 4 R 2 ER BB; LHP Frank Garces 2.0 IP 2 H BB; RHP Dennis O'Grady 1.0 IP BB; RHP Johnny Barbato (S, 7) 1.0 IP 2 Ks.

Prospect Watch:A pair of solo home runs by CF Rymer Liriano was the difference as the Missions scored in the first five innings of the game. RHP Devin Jones had a rough fifth inning as the first four runners of the inning scored but he bounced back to get the next three batters...Once again San Antonio's bullpen didn't give up a run...Rymer Liriano is starting to heat up with three home runs in his last six games...The bullpen seems to suit LHP Frank Garces who now has 20 strikeouts in 12.2 innings against only seven walks and a 2.84 ERA...2B Casey McElroy after starting out 1-15 is now 9 for 28. In 2012 he put up some big numbers in the Cal League and is getting a chance to play everyday with Cory Spangenberg out...Barbato now has 19 strikeouts in 16 innings against only four walks and six for eight in save opportunities.

Storm 3 - Inland Empire 66ers 1

Key Statistics CF Alberth Martiniez 3-4, BB; DH Carlos Quentin 1-3, BB; 1B Duanel Jones 1-2, BB; RHP Bryan Rodriguez 5.1 IP 7 H R ER 2 BB K; RHP Cody Hebner (W, 2-0) 2.0 IP BB; RHP Trevor Gott (S,9) H, K.

Prospect Watch: The Storm scored twice in the seventh and once in the ninth which was enough for their ninth win in ten games. The Strom at 19-12 are the only team in the organization with a winning record...Must have been another good post-game spread as the Storm hosted their second major leaguer on a rehab assignment with Carlos Quentin seeing his first action of the season...RHP Cody Hebner's peripheral statistics aren't great but a 1.08 ERA in 13 games is along with the opponents only hitting a measly .130 against him...starter Bryan Rodriguez is an excellent example of why the win stat is justifiably overrated by stat heads. In six starts he is averaging just over five innings a start with a 2.43 ERA in the Cal League. Throw in a good 22/9 K/BB ratio and he is doing what you ask of a starter, giving his team a chance to win on a consistent basis.

South Bend Silver Hawks 16 - TinCaps 2

Key Statistics CF Mallex Smith 2-3 RBI; C Ryan Miller 1-4, 2B; LHP Bryan Verbitsky (L, 0-1) 2.0 IP 8 H 7 R 6 ER BB; RHP Tony Rizzotti 1.1 IP 3 H 5 R 4 ER 2 BB 2 K; RHP Ronnie Richardson 1.0 IP 2 BB.

Prospect Watch: TinCaps‘ manager Michael Collins is experiencing the full gamut of having a very young team as Fort Wayne was pounded and once again five-foot-six outfielder Ronnie Richardson made an appearance on the mound. Along with RHP Erik Cabrera he was the only pitcher that threw a scoreless inning among the six that toed the rubber and had a lower ERA than two of them. It was his third appearance this year on the mound and the second in which he didn't allow a run...1B Jake Bauers was 0-3 with a walk and made one of the three errors by the TinCaps today. His batting average has now "slumped" to .444...On the bright side there are still well over a hundred games still to play.
