RoughRiders Shut Down Missions

SAN ANTONIO, TX: The Missions scoring binge came to an abrupt halt with a brilliant performance by by Frisco right-hander Jerad Eickhoff who threw 7.1 innings and only gave up a pair of hits in the RoughRiders 2-1 victory.

The game was not without some controversy when CF Rymer Liriano was ejected trying to steal third base in the fourth inning after landing on second when the RoughRiders left fielder made an error allowing DH Robert Kral to score all the way from first.

"I thought he was safe, Rymer thought he was safe and the crowd thought he was safe but one guy didn't. Unfortunately his was the only opinion that counted," said Francisco Morales, the hitting coach for San Antonio who was coaching third base again tonight for Missions' manager Rich Dauer who was out sick with a stomach virus.

"We hit some balls hard tonight, but right at people and also Eickhoff threw a really good game."

Starting pitcher Matt Wisler threw a solid five innings, only giving up one hard hit. His velocity was ranging between 90 to 93 MPH as the ball was down and moving for most of the night.

"I had all three working today, especially the changeup I think is really coming along," said Wisler.

"My velocity was a little down tonight, then again with a left-handed lineup I throw more two-seamers."

In six starts Wisler has only given up more than two runs twice and has an ERA of 2.16 with a 35 to 6 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

A solo home run by Frisco second baseman Rougned Odor in the top sixth to greet Wisler's replacement Adys Portillo which was the difference in the game. In eight of the Missions' first twenty-four games the team has scored one run or less.

Tomorrow night Josh Geer takes the mound against Frisco for the third of a four game set. Despite a 2.40 ERA in four of Geer's five starts the Missions have failed to score a run.

Mission Notes: Catcher Austin Hedges was 1-3 and nearly hit a game-tying home run in the top eighth inning. Hedges has had a run of bad luck but has been making solid contact. Recommended Stories
