Prospect Watch: Tough day on the hill for Sampson. After two straight solids starts allowing only one run, he threw batting practice to the Isotopes on Tuesday. In 38 AAA innings last year Sampson allowed only five home runs. In one start tonight Sampson allowed three. The wind was blowing out, but that didn't cause the five walks… Cameron Maybin played in back-to-back games for the first time this season. Maybin has managed only one hit through the first four games.

Missions 0 – Tulsa Drillers 2
Prospect Watch: Offensively the Missions managed only four hits, all singles. From a pitching standpoint, 30 year-old Josh Geer posted his third great start. The former Padre has walked only one batter in 16 innings while striking out 8… Still a prospect Adys Portillo made his fifth appearance, all in relief. While he has a WHIP of nearly 2, he is showing signs of improvement in the short relief role. He is starting to figure out that in short relief you don't have to hide a pitch until the third time through the order. Not allowing a walk is a big improvement as Portillo walked 25 batters in only 35 innings the last time he was in AA (2012).
Storm 6 – Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 3
Prospect Watch: With two more hits today CF Alberth Martinez moved up to seventh in the Cal League in batting average at .386. While being a leadoff hitting centerfielder might give the indication that Martinez is from the same mold as Jankowski and Noel, he is far from it. On the plus side he has a lot more power, already hitting more homeruns through 12 games (3) than Jankowski did all of last year (1). On the down side, like most Latin American prospects he is a swing first hitter, and has garnered only two walks. He also only stole ten bases all of last year, and one thus far this year. He might end up being a number two or three hitter, but right now he is doing a great job putting the ball in play and getting on for Renfroe.

TinCaps 13 – Burlington Bees 3
Prospect Watch: Despite the frigid temperature the TinCaps demolished the Bees. Franmil Reyes has had a multi-hit game in three of the last four games. After starting the season 3-23 with zero extra-base hits, Reyes has now collected five extra base hits over the last five games… Former second round pick Fernando Perez had his first career five RBI game.
