MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: August 27

Juan Oramas in Spring Training.

It hasn't been the easiest path back from Tommy John surgery for Juan Oramas. However, after throwing his third straight start without allowing an earned run... HE'S BACK

Reno Aces 10 – Tucson Padres 1

Key Statistics 2B Dean Anna 0-3, RS, BB; CF Mike Wilson 1-3, RBI; LHP Tommy Layne 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 K.

Prospect Watch: If Tommy Layne is going to have a shot at returning to the big leagues, he is going to have to pitch with more consistency. Layne through 1.2 scoreless innings lowered his ERA to 4.37, but has not thrown back-to-back scoreless outings since August 10th. The only hope for Layne might be Hynes extreme inability to throw a strike in the big leagues.

For further reading on the Tucson Padres please see the Arizona Daily Star

San Antonio Missions 1 – Midland Rockhounds 0

Key Statistics LHP Juan Oramas 6 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 Ks; 2B Cory Spangenberg 2-4, RBI; LF Everett Williams 1-3.

Prospect Watch: Over his last 17.2 innings (three starts), Oramas has allowed 12 hits, zero earned runs, two walks and 15 strikeouts. In fact, Oramas has not allowed more than one earned run in a start since July 29th. While his 2.84 ERA is already outstanding, take away his one bad start (July 6, 2 IP 8 ER) and he would have the best ERA in the Texas League.

For further reading on the San Antonio Missions please see the San Antonio Express-News.

Lake Elsinore 2 - Modesto Nuts 7

Key Statistics RHP Justin Hancock 0.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 0 K; C Robert Kral 2-5, 2B, RBI; RF Corey Adamson 1-3, 2 BB, SB (5).

Prospect Watch: What happened to Justin Hancock? After going 5-1, 1.73 ERA in 12 starts in Fort Wayne, Hancock has gone 2-7, 5.53 ERA, in 13 starts for the Storm. This was his shortest career start lasting less than one inning.

For further reading on the Storm please see the Southwest Riverside News Network.

No game for the Tin Caps.

For further reading on the TinCaps' please see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.

Ems thankfully have a day off.

AZL Padres 1 – AZL Royals 10

Key Statistics CF Mason Smith 2-4, 2B, 3B, RBI; LF Jose Urena 2-4.

Prospect Watch: Jose Urena threw out a runner at the plate. The AZL home run leader now has not hit one in a week and had his first multi-hit game in nine days. With the Padres getting blown out this might be the only highlight.
