MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: July 24

Renfroe hit his thrid home run on Wednesday.

Eugene and Fort Wayne claim victories as Renfroe schools Kris Bryant.

Tacoma Rainiers 5 – Tucson Padres 3

Key Statistics RHP Anthony Bass 5 IP,7 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 0 K; CF Dan Robertson 1-3, 2 RS, BB, SB (18),

Prospect Watch: Between the injuries to Richard and Marquis, Anthony Bass had a great opportunity to break into the Padre rotation. Unfortunately over his last four starts Bass has allowed 19 earned runs on 33 hits in only 22 innings.

For further reading on the Tucson Padres please see the Arizona Daily Star.

San Antonio Missions 0 – Corpus Christi Hooks 6

Key Statistics LHP Juan Oramas 3.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K; CF Rico Noel 2-3, BB; DH Tommy Medica 2-4.

Prospect Watch: 2B Cory Spangenberg hasn't exactly set the Texas League on fire since being promoted. Spangenberg is hitting a paltry .245/.313/.272 in 41 Texas League games. Spangenberg has only three extra base hits; with only one double in July.

Lake Elsinore Storm 1 – Inland Empire 66ers 6

Key Statistics RHP Justin Hancock 3.2 IP, 3 H, 6 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 0 K; LF Jeremy Baltz 1-4, 2B, RBIC Austin Hedges 0-3

Prospect Watch: What happened to Justin Hancock? Fort Wayne's best pitcher during the first half has struggled mightily in his last four starts. The Defiance, Ohio native has allowed 12 earned runs, 18 overall, on 21 hits, and 11 walks in only 16.1 innings striking out 9. Hancock has already equaled his earned runs (13) and runs (20) as he did in Fort Wayne despite throwing 35 fewer innings.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 9 – West Michigan Whitecaps 2

Key Statistics RHP Zach Eflin 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K (W, 5-5, 3.02 ERA); LF Luis Domoromo 4-5, 2B, RS, 2 RBI; 3B Gabriel Quintana 2-5, 2 RS, RBI

Prospect Watch: Eflin's string of quality starts continues. He has not allowed more than two earned runs in a game in over three months, and has walked all of one batter in the last 19 innings. Eflin was quick and effective with his pitches, throwing 81 pitches in seven innings. It was Eflin's first start of seven innings or more since May 29th.

For further reading on the TinCaps' please see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.

Eugene Emeralds 5– Boise Hawks 1

Key Stats: RF Hunter Renfroe 3-4, 2B, HR (3), 2 RS, 2 RBI; 2B Ferando Perez 2-3, 2B, HR (2), 2 RBI; RHP Christian Miller 4 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K.

Prospect Watch: Kris Bryant didn't strike out today. He did go 1-4 with a double… Fellow first rounder Hunter Renfroe still got the better end of the game. Renfroe hit his third homerun, a towering 6th inning blast to put the Ems up 3-0.

AZL Padres 10– AZL Brewers 3

Key Stats: RHP Adrian De Horta 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K; RF Jose Urena 3-4, 2 2B, 3B, 3 RS, 2 RBI; 3B Dustin Peterson 2-4, RS, 2 RBI; Josh VanMeter 2-4, 2B, RS, RBI, BB

Prospect Watch: Padres have to be impressed with the start of RF Jose Urena. The 18 year old Mexican leads the AZL Padres in HR (6) and is now hitting .293 on the season. The surprising thing is that as a right handed batter he is hitting RHP to the tune of .313/.423/.641, but against southpaws he is hitting only .167/.259/.458
