Tucson Padres 9 Iowa Cubs 8
Key Statistics: 2B Dean Anna 4-5, 3R, RBI, SB; CF Dan Robertson 3-5, 2B, SB; LF Jonathan Galvez 3-5, R, SB, Assist; LHP Robbie Erlin 4.2IP, 12 H, 6R, 4ER, 4K, 0BB
Prospect Watch: Apparently neither club got the memo that the American Northern Division is supposed to be the part of the PCL that helps pitchers as they combined for 17 runs and 35 hits. … Robbie Erlin couldn’t get through the fifth inning for just the second time this year, getting tagged for a season-high 12 hits. The lefty had a weird line, throwing 56 of 79 pitches for strikes and striking out four without any walks, but couldn’t miss many bats on the day. Opponents are now hitting .322 against him for the year. … Jonathan Galvez’s third three-hit game of the week pushed his average back over .300 for the season, but he’s had a complete power outage. In 16 games this month, he has just one double and no other extra-base hits despite a .339 average. … A night after his snapped a nine-game hitting streak, Dean Anna was back at it Friday, collecting four more hits and a stolen base in the leadoff spot. Much as Andy Parrino earned his way onto the big league roster last year, Anna’s mix of performance and doing anything the organization needs could get him a look if a need arises.

Frisco 12 San Antonio Missions 1
Key Statistics: LF Everett Williams 2-2, 2BB, SB; C Eddy Rodriguez 1-3, HR(2); RHP 4IP, 6H, 5ER, 5K, 2BB
Prospect Watch: Matt Wisler’s second turn at Double-A wasn’t pretty as the 20-year-old was tagged for five runs in the first inning. Non-prospects Zach Zaneski and Chih-Hsien Chiang both took his fastball deep after going down 0-2 in the count. Wisler had surrendered only two homers in his first 145 professional innings, but has yielded three in his first two Texas League starts. Seven of the eight runs he’s given up at Double-A have come in the first inning. Just as in his first start, he came back and got on a roll later in the game. … Everett Williams’ streaky May continued as he collected two singles and a pair of walks. He had struck out in 10 of 21 at-bats entering the night.

Modesto Nuts 12 Lake Elsinore Storm 8
Key Statistics: 2B Cory Spangenberg 2-3, 3B, 2BB, 2R; CF Travis Jankowski 1-2, 2B, BB, SF; RHP Matt Jackson 5IP, 7H, 6ER, 4K, 1BB
Prospect Watch: The three table-setters in the Storm lineup have struggled to get going at the same time. On Friday, each of them got on base at least twice as Jace Peterson drew a pair of walks, while Cory Spangenberg had two hits and two walks, and Travis Jankowski had one of each. With a triple, Spangenberg pushed his slugging percentage for the month up over .700 and his May OPS rose to 1.117. … Reliever Luis De La Cruz, who has struggled with command at some points, completely lost the plate Friday, walking four of the six hitters he faced. Unfortunately for him, one of the few times he found the strike zone, the pitch was blasted for a grand slam. The five runs he surrendered were enough to raise his season ERA nearly two full runs.
Ft. Wayne TinCaps 4 Lake County 3
Key Statistics: CF Mallex Smith 2-4, BB, R 2SB(11); RHP Zach Eflin 5IP, 5H, 2R, 6K, 2BB, 2WP
Prospect Watch: Zach Eflin turned in his fourth consecutive solid start, setting a career high with six strikeouts. The 19-year-old Floridian has gone at least five innings and given up two or fewer earned runs in each of those outings. He remains on a tighter pitch limit than some of the other young arms in the Fort Wayne rotation. … Mallex Smith missed two weeks with minor ankle and hamstring issues, so it’s good news to see him hit his stride quickly after coming back. The leadoff speedster had two hits and a walk, and also swiped a pair of bases, including taking third easily.
