MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: May 9

The TinCaps' threw their first nine inning no-hitter. It was the clubs second no-hitter, with the first being a seven inning no-hitter thrown by Simon Castro back in 2009. Not to be too over-shadowed, Matt Andriese earned his fifth win of the year with another stellar performance for San Antonio.

Tucson Padres 7 – Albuquerque Isotopes 8

Key Statistics CF/RF Dan Robertson 3-6, RS, RBI; C Rene Rivera 4-4, BB, RS; 2B Dean Anna 2-5, 2B, RS, RBI.

Prospect Watch: It is always hard to win a game when the starting pitcher does not record an out. The knuckleball of Eddie Bonine wasn't working and he couldn't retire a batter… Anna, Robertson, Petit, Rivera, and Jaff Decker all collected multi-hit games. While the T-Pads collected 16 hits, in the end it was the 14 runners left on base that ended their four game win streak. James Darnell started the game in right field then shifted to left, but went 0-4 at the plate with two walks and six batters left on base.

San Antonio Missions 2 – Midland Rockhounds 1

Key Statistics RHP Matt Andriese 6 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K (W, 5-0); CF Reymond Fuentes 2-4, SB (15); RF Rico Noel 2-4, 2B, RS, 2 SB (24).

Prospect Watch: While fans are drooling at teammates Burch Smith and Donn Roach, it is Matt Andriese who is the only one that is undefeated. The right- hander has only allowed more than one run in two of his seven starts. Just as impressive is that Andriese has walked more than one batter in only one start. Despite being in May, Andriese still has a WHIP of less than 1 and a BAA of .196… After blowing his first save of the year in his last appearance, Matt Stites came back to throw a perfect eighth inning, striking out two, to earn his fourth hold of the year.

Lancaster Jethawks 10 – Lake Elsinore Storm 4

Key Statistics 2B Cory Spangenberg 2-3, 2 2B, RS, RBI; CF Travis Jankowski 1-3, 2B, 2 RS.

Prospect Watch: 2B Cory Spangenberg extended his hitting streak to 10 straight games and extended both his mutihit streak and extra base hit streak to five straight games… After starting the year off well two of Lake Elsinore's outfielders have been in a slump. CF Travis Jankowski has been hitting .150 with a .400 OPS over the last two weeks entering today. While the big swinging Kyle Gaedele is hitting just .188 with only three extra base hits over the last two weeks.

. Great Lakes Loons 0 – Fort Wayne TinCaps 1

Key Statistics LHP Max Fried 5.2 IP, 0 H, 4 BB, 8 K; RHP Matthew Sheppard 1.1 IP; RHP Leonel Campos 1.0 IP, 3 Ks;RHP Roman Madrid 1 IP, 1 BB, 1 K (W, 4-0); DH Corey Adamson 2-4, 2B; LF Jeremy Baltz 2-4, 2B.

Prospect Watch: FIRST NINE INNING NO-HITTER IN TINCAPS HISTORY! LHP Max Fried who hadn't pitched in nearly two weeks after coming down with the flu, did not miss a beat. Fried tied his career high in strikeouts (8), and pitched into the sixth for only the second time in his career. Going into the sixth Fried had faced just one over the minimum as the first two walks were both erased on double plays. Fried was every bit the pitcher that lured the Padres to draft him in the first round.

The TinCaps offense finally came through in the bottom of the ninth inning when C Dane Phillips walking to lead off the inning - which was followed by the Great Lake's pitching coach being ejected. Oddly, the next two Loons' batters were hit by pitches which was followed by a "walk-off" walk by CF Brian Adams to win the game.
