The Tucson Padres and Missions both cruised in laughers behind big offensive outbursts. Amid snow flurries, the TinCaps took care of business, even as Joe Ross looked human (or maybe just cold) for the first time this year. In Elsinore, things keep going sideways.

Tucson Padres 12 Salt Lake Bees 4

Key Statistics: CF Daniel Robertson 2-3, 3B, 2BB, 4R; 3B Jonathan Galvez 2-4, 2B, 2RBI, SB (6); LHP Robbie Erlin 5IP, 5H, 2ER, 1K, 3BB

Prospect Watch: Jonathan Galvez got the start at third base last night, his first professional action at the position. The 22-year-old also saw some appearances in left field during major league camp. While there are doubts about his ultimate defensive home, he’s hitting the ball with authority and, after being slowed by a pair of leg injuries last year, has swiped six bases without getting caught in 14 games this year. … Robbie Erlin put together an odd night. Although 50 of his 83 pitches went for strikes, he issues three free passes against just one strikeout. The lefty surrendered three extra-base hits including a homer, but managed to contain the damage to only two runs. …Danny Robertson just keeps getting it done. With a single, triple and two walks Friday, he now sports a .362/.426/.517 line with more walks than strikeouts on the year.

San Antonio Missions 10 Midland Rockhounds 0

Key Statistics: 3B Jake Blackwood 4-5, 3RBI, 2R; 1B A.J. Kirby-Jones 3-4, BB, RS; RHP Matt Andriese 5IP, 3H, 0ER, 5K, 1BB

Prospect Watch: Reymond Fuentes kept his torrid start going, picking up a pair of hits and a walk, and stealing his seventh base. The 22-year-old has a .328/.381/.552 line and, after striking out in 25 percent of his at-bats last season, has cut that number to 19 percent so far in 2013. … Matt Andriese doesn’t light up radar guns quite the way others in the organization can, but he has four effective pitches and works all of them well. The 23-year-old righty was incredibly efficient, getting through five innings on only 63 pitches Friday, and has allowed only 13 runners in 15 innings of work. He is one of six starters in the system with an ERA under 2.00. … The three-headed monster at the back of the Missions bullpen continues to shorten games. Jeremy McBryde, Matt Stites and Kevin Quackenbush each worked a scoreless inning and combined to strike out four while allowing only one run. Neither Stites nor Quackenbush have given up an earned run yet this year and both own 9:1 strikeout-to-walk ratios.

Visalia Rawhide 8 Lake Elsinore Storm 6

Key Statistics: CF Travis Jankowski 2-4, 3B, BB, 2K; 1B Lee Orr 2-4, 2B, HR (3), 2R, 2RBI

Prospect Watch: Plenty of observers thought a McNeese State alum would be a key contributor for the Storm this year, though most were probably banking on Jace Peterson. Through the first two weeks, though it’s been first baseman Lee Orr who has demolished the ball for Elsinore. With a double and homer on the night, Orr is now slugging .783. … Travis Jankowski’s hot bat has gotten him moved into the leadoff spot, where he continues to get on base. The 2012 first-round pick has a .345/.422/.473 line and has struck out only four times in 64 plate appearances. He’s reached base in all but one game so far this year. … Greg Gonzalez had to leave the game midway through the only hitter he faced. We’ll work on getting an injury update for you.

Ft. Wayne TinCaps 7 Lansing Lugnuts 3

Key Statistics: 3B Gabriel Quintana 3-5, R, 2RBI; CF Alberth Martinez 2-4, HBP, R, 2RBI; RHP Joe Ross 4.2 IP, 3H, 2ER, 3K, 4BB; RHP Leonel Campos IP, 0H, 0R, 2K

Prospect Watch: Joe Ross had his first small hiccup of the year, struggling with his command in a way he hadn’t yet on the season. After walking two in his first 10 innings, the big righty walked four over 4.2. It’s unlikely that the temperatures in the 30s, gusting wind and occasional snow flurries helped him, or any other pitchers, with their feel in the game. … Twenty-year-old infielder Gabriel Quintana had been struggling at the plate over the last week, but came up with three well-timed hits to drive in a pair. … Fifth-rounder Mallex Smith continues to show solid skills in the leadoff spot. The speedster added a pair of hits and a stolen base last night and sports a .380 on-base percentage in the early going. Although he was taken out of junior college, the diminutive outfielder does not turn 20 until next month.
