MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: April 15

Headley might have been the only bright spot

The show must go on. While people from all around the world were glued to their televisions, Tucson, San Antonio and Lake Elsinore all had games to play. Every stadium was tasked with honoring Jackie Robinson, paying their respects to the men and women in Boston, and playing a baseball game. To the letter, they all did a fantastic job. Too bad all three teams lost.

Fresno Grizzlies 12 – Tucson Padres 11

Key Statistics Dan Robertson 3-4, 2B, RS, 2 RBI, BB; Jon Galvez 2-5, 2B, RS, 2 RBI, SB (4); Brandon Allen 2-5, 3B, RS, RBI

Prospect Watch: The T-Pads blew a seven run lead. Two Friar hopefuls had rough outings on the mound. Miles Mikolas gave up four runs in the eighth, and Tommy Layne, who picked up the loss, gave up the game winning run in the ninth… Offensively Dan Robertson continues to hit. After another three hits, the center firelder is now hitting .364 this year… Jaff Decker continues to improve from last year, but still not to the level that is deserving of a spot on the 40 man roster. Decker went 1-4, RS, RBI, BB.

San Antonio Missions 1 – Springfield Cardinals 9

Key Statistics Donn Roach 4.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K (L, 2-1); Everett Williams 2-3, BB; Tommy Medica 1-4, HR (4), RBI

Prospect Watch: Donn Roach took his first loss of the season, as he ran into a lot of bad luck early. In the first inning Roach got five ground balls and one fly ball. The flyball went for a three base error The ground balls went for an error, two singles, a groundout and a double play. By the time the double play rolled around to end the inning the score was already 2-0. In Roach's 4.2 innings of work, only four balls were hit in the air. Five of the six hits were 40-hoppers to the outfield… Reymond Fuentes was thrown out of the game after striking out to end the 5th.

Key Statistics Colin Rea 5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K; Yeison Asencio 2-4, 2 2B, RS; Travis Jankowski 1-5, 2B, 2 RBI

Prospect Watch: Big story is of course Chase Headley. Headley played 7 innings going 1-3 at the plate. In the field there was one groundout to third, one swinging bunt for a single, and one pickoff pitcher to third. He handled everything well but wasn't tested much… Austin Hedges is hitting .147/.250/.206 this year… While not on the DL Cory Spangenberg missed his third consecutive game with a jammed shoulder. He is scheduled for evaluation Tuesday and is expected to return to action quickly.
