High winds and rain caused one game to be postponed, one game to be called early and one game to be delayed over two hours. Weather aside, the system had their first winning day of the year going 2-1

Tucson Padres 14 –Colorado Springs Sky Sox 3 (5 innings)

Key Statistics: Keyvius Sampson 2.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K; Jaff Decker 2-4, HR (2), 2 RS 2 RBI; Kyle Blanks 2-3, 2B, 3 RS, 2 RBI, BB; Travis Buck 3-4, 3 2B, 3 RS, 3 RBI

Prospect Watch: Through the first two innings the wind was tame and it was a scoreless game. Then the winds started. The swirling winds would be fairly quiet one minute and then blow gusts of almost 50 mph. A flyball could be hit to straight away center, and then fall in down the right field line. Neither Aaron Cook or Sampson made it out of the third inning. Then it became a game of who could hit the most fly balls. Clearly the T-Pads won. After the fifth inning, and all the dust made it virtually impossible to play, the umps called the game… Jon Galvez got his first two hits of the season…Dan Robertson, Decker, Blanks, Buck, Galvez, and Dean Anna all had multi hit games.

San Antonio Missions 5 – Springfield Cardinals 2

Key Statistics Willfredo Boscan 4.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K; Everett Williams 2-4, 2B, 2 RS, RBI; Tommy Medica 2-3, 2B, 3B, RS, 2 RBI, BB

Prospect Watch: Reymond Fuentes and Everett Williams continue to have strong starts to the 2013 campaign. Both players collected multihit games, including a double. In 136 games last year, Fuentes hit 20 doubles; with todays double he is now up to 4 in 5 games. The only problem with Fuentes, was watching him get picked off third with two outs in a tie game… The play of the game goes to Tommy Medica, who came up in the eighth with two on and no out and laced a triple for a pair of RBIs to right field. Medica has now had a multi-hit game in four of the five games, and leads the club with a 1.33 OPS

Storm were postponed due to winds reaching up to 60+ mph

Fort Wayne Tin Caps 4 – Western Michigan WhiteCaps 11

Key Statistics: Erik Cabrera 3.2 IP, 8 H, 8 ER, 3 BB, 0 K; Mallex Smith 2-4, 2 2B, RBI; Diego Goris 2-4, 2B; Maxx Tissenbaum 0-0, 4 BB, RS.

Prospect Watch: After a two hour and forty-two minute rain delay the Tin Caps took the field. Erik Cabrera showed fans why the Padres were willing to put him in such a talented rotation. The right-hander had a free and easy delivery and was sitting at 93-94 all game with great movement. Unfortunately it was too much movement as he was constantly falling behind hitters. He would then try to throw it harder which flattened out the fastball, and the WhiteCaps didn’t miss… With the TinCaps' 3-5 hitters Jeremy Baltz, Dane Phillips, and Gabriel Quintana all getting the day off, offense would have to come from other sources. The few prospects that did play, produced Rodney Daal 1-3, 2B, RS, RBI and Smith, but were 2-11 with runners in scoring position. Coupled with bad pitching and mental lapses on defense, it wasn’t a pretty game.
